If you are like me, you would say your babies are priceless. But to a trafficker, they have a very real price on their sweet heads-
Up to $300,000 a year.
“What did our parents say from the beginning?
Do not talk to strangers. Do not open the door to somebody you do not know.
“Can you imagine the feeling that we would have if we walked by a dark alley, and we saw our child talking to somebody we do not know? Yet every day they’re doing that on the internet,” said Duffie Stone, 14th Circuit Solicitor, at the meeting. “Nobody’s breaking into our house anymore through windows. They don’t need to. They can come through in our child’s cell phone.”Sheila Roemeling, co-chair of the Lowcountry Human Trafficking Task Force
It doesn’t matter how much of a helicopter parent you are. If the outside world has access to your child, then your child is at risk. Period.
I fully recognize we can’t keep our kids in a bubble. I have raised two young adults and stumbled through this digital age, trying to figure out how to do this right. One thing I have learned and believe with all of my heart is that we can and must delay exposure to smart phones and social media.
Remember the flip phone? They still make them. How about bringing a book in the car? Or listening to music?
How about no phones in the bedrooms, or using something like Disney Circle to shut off Wi-Fi at night?
Is it hard? Yes. Will we always do it right? Of course not. But we must not be complacent. We have to be willing to be the bad guy and teach our kids the very real dangers lurking just outside our door and on the other side of their screen.
Talk to your daughters (and sons) about “boyfriending.” Let them know how men will use any means to gain their trust in order to lure them away from the safety of home and into a life of slavery. It’s a hard conversation, but one we must have.

Pray for wisdom. Have the conversations. Set the limits.
Our babies are worth it.
